Much of my work during the last years started from a biographical point. Among those many works relating to China: the reason being that my grandparents, Hedwig and Fritz Weiss, spend many years in that country at the beginning of the last century. My grandfather was a German consul in Sichuan and Yunnan. Their collected materials like photographs, sound recordings and notes were the trigger for filmic work e.g. "The Chinese Shoes", as well as the reason for organising exhibitions of their photographic work in China and the publication of a book "Yesterday in the Land of Ba and Shu".
